The Age , the BBC , The Washington Post and many other media outlets report on the selection of the American Dialect Society's Word of the Year. The winner was "plutoed", which means a demotion or devaluing, such as happened to Pluto, which in 2006 was demoted from full planet to "dwarf planet" status.
The word even has its own blog.

Despite all the excitement I don't think it's as memorable as the 2005 winner "truthiness", a word which suggests its own meaning and is therefore likely to remain in use for some time to come.
