Power thinking

Tonight I braved the rain and went to the local shops. As I was approached the shopping centre all most of the lights went out. The exceptions? The two big supermarkets. All the small businesses were left in the dark. I wonder what caused the malfunction, and whether the small businesses have some redress against their landlords.

It also struck me that this occurrence was a metaphor for our society: the government has encouraged many people to set themselves up in business or as independent contractors, yet when trouble strikes the big corporations usually seem to have the resources to cope without doing themselves too much harm.
